Adams Tunstall Patriotic Ware Plate - City of Albany Upstate New York
Adams Tunstall transferware ceramic plate from their Patriotic Ware line, depicting the coat of arms of the city of Albany, New York, surrounded by a geometric border. The coat of arms, formally adopted by the capital city in 1789, shows a sloop for river travel, a tree felled by a beaver representing the importance of the fur trade, and two sheaves of wheat, which was a major crop in the Hudson River valley in the 17th and 18th centuries. Made in England, circa 1900.
Measures about 9 3/4 inches diameter. Printed marks on the reverse.
Overall condition is very good, with no chips, cracks, repairs or crazing. There is some minor roughness to the glaze around the rim, a few small losses to the overpainted details (notably between the two wheat sheaves), and a small loss to the rim on the back that is under the glaze.
