Vintage Dansk Quistgaard's Copper - Brass Burner and Pot Stand, circa 1960
Vintage Dansk brass burner and stand for use with their line of copper cookware designed by Jens Quistgaard. Made in Portugal, this line was made only for a very short time around 1960-61. This stand, meant to keep food warm, would have used fuel oil in the small font at the center, then the cotton wick would be lit and adjusted as necessary. The four-arm trivet sits above the flame and is large enough to accommodate all three sizes of pots in the Dansk copper cookware line. The base plate has a teak bottom to prevent scorching the table surface.
This burner stand appears to retain its original lacquered finish. For the pots, it is important that the lacquer be removed with acetone before use—I assume the same is true for the burner. The brass may tarnish if the lacquer is removed. See care instructions in last two images.
Measures about 3 1/2 inches high to top of pot (a bit higher with lid handle), just under 10 1/4 inches diameter overall, accommodates a pot about 9 1/4 inches diameter (the largest size Dansk pot fits nicely). Four-arm trivet with stamped mark on underside and branded mark on underside of base plate.
Overall condition is good. The burner section appears never to have been used, and there is some light overall wear, with some surface scratches on the uprights and the trivet (many of which I think will prove to be mainly in the lacquered surface and may be minimized should you choose to remove the lacquer).
The third-to-last image shows the full line of Quistgaard's copper--this listing is for the burner stand only. For more information of Quistgaard's Copper, click here:
