Dansk Mutenye Cutting Board - Rare Woods Cheese Board Serving Tray
Dansk Mutenye Cutting Board - Rare Woods Cheese Board Serving Tray
Large circular cutting board and serving tray designed by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk, made in mutenye (an African hardwood) for the Rare Woods line produced in the early 1960s, model 1635. The staved end-grain center section (end-grain is hard, durable and ideal for cutting, like butcher block) is surrounded by a slightly dished outer area. This makes it great for workaday chopping as well as for use as a cheese board when entertaining.
Measures about 17 1/4 inches diameter overall, the center section is about 12 7/8 inches diameter. Faint branded mark on reverse, made in Denmark, 1960s.
Overall condition is good, with some knife marks on the cutting surface and a patch of scratches on the reverse, and a couple tiny chips out of the inner edge. I have recently oiled this piece. Recommended care: wash with gentle soap and water (don't soak), rub with food safe oil about once a year to keep wood in good shape.
