Vernon Kilns Maine and Cape Cod Coastline Luncheon Plate
Vernon Kilns Maine and Cape Cod Coastline Luncheon Plate
Gale Turnbull, artistic director at the California pottery Vernon Kilns, designed this unusual pattern in 1936. 'Coastline' depicted the shores of the United States from East coast to West (Michigan, too!) on plates, bowls and other dinnerware. This hand-painted dinner plate shows the coastline of Maine and Cape Cod. Each of the pieces in the series also has a boat and anchor to complete the Nautical theme.
This pattern was in production for only a short time and today is very hard to find. See my blog post on Coastline to see more pieces in this pattern: https://www.jenisandberg.com/blog/2012/08/gale-turnbulls-coastline-dinnerware-for.html
Measures just under 9 1/2 inches diameter. Printed marks on reverse, late 1930s.
Overall condition is very good, with no chips, cracks or crazing to the glaze. Utensil marks to the surface of the plate.
I sometimes have more pieces in this pattern that I have not listed, if you are interested, please be in touch.
