Vintage Dansk Fjord Steak Knives - Set of Six in Original Box (no lid)
Vintage Dansk Fjord Steak Knives - Set of Six in Original Box (no lid)
Set of six Dansk teak-handled stainless steel steak knives in the Fjord pattern, designed by Jens Quistgaard in 1954. A mid-century classic, this pattern is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art. In original fitted box (lacking lid); two of the six have the original plastic caps on the tips of the blades. Early production made in Germany, circa 1960.
Each knife is marked Dansk Designs Germany with the four ducks mark, indicating earlier manufacture.
See my blog post on Dansk's Fjord and other flatware here: https://www.jenisandberg.com/blog/2012/04/gotta-dansk-fjord-flatware-by-jens.html
Overall condition is good. Very minor wear to the stainless steel. Natural variation in the color and figure of the teak handles. All plugs are present and show little wear; no separations at the handle. The box is missing the lid and shows some wear.
This flatware is NOT safe for use in dishwashers. I recommend rubbing the wood handles with a food-safe oil once or twice a year to keep them in top form.
