Vintage Italian Wool Blanket - Black and Cream Plaid Buffalo Check
Vintage Italian Wool Blanket - Black and Cream Plaid Buffalo Check
Italian wool lap blanket made in black and natural buffalo check, made by Lanificio Val Bisenzio of Florence, probably 1950s or '60s. The lanificio (woolen mill) was located near Prato, with (presumably) a retail location in Florence, and the company went out of business in 1966.
The blanket is extremely thick, but still fairly lightweight. The fiber content is 'pure laine' (all wool), perhaps with some mohair? Fringe on the two short ends.
Measures about 68 x 58 inches, plus the fringe (about 3 1/2 inches). Each square is about 4 x 4 1/2 inches.
Overall condition of the blanket is good, with no noticeable stains, very minor pilling and a couple spots that might indicate some moth damage, but the blanket is so thick that there is nothing approaching a hole. Some wear to the label. Frozen overnight to make sure there are no moths!
